The CONIAC Fire Safety Group has updated the responsibility and competence matrix to assist in identifying and outlining the roles and responsibilities of individuals involved in construction fire safety.

The CONIAC Fire Safety Group has recently updated the responsibility and competence matrix to assist in identifying and outlining the roles and responsibilities of individuals involved in fire safety and prevention on construction projects. This matrix encompasses both statutory duty holders and external fire safety professionals who play a crucial role in fire prevention during the design, pre-construction, and construction phases of projects, regardless of whether it is the construction of a new building or the refurbishment of existing structures.

The accompanying tables in this document provide a comprehensive overview of the minimum competence required for each role. This document serves as a valuable resource for the construction industry in defining the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary for each duty holder’s specific roles.

While this document offers guidance and signposts to relevant information, it is not task-specific and does not aim to provide specialised information tailored to specific sites or tasks. The matrix provides essential insights and structure that can be utilised to develop the roles, responsibilities, and tasks associated with your particular activities. It complements the guidance provided in Fire Safety - PDCA Flow Charts & Duty Holder Tables.
