WWT EVENT: THE SILENT RISKS ON SITE. A GUIDE TO SITE HEALTH HAZARDS

Date Posted: 6 October 2026

The South West Working Well Together Group welcomes the construction industry to a free half-day event in Bristol, providing practical advice on site health hazards, with a particular focus on supporting smaller contractors and trades.

The construction industry has made great progress in reducing accidents and improving safety. However, everyday health hazards can still have a lasting impact on the people working in our industry.

Unlike an accident, the effects of exposure to dust, isocyanates, noise and lead may not always be immediately obvious. That does not make the risks any less serious.

The Silent Risks on Site – A Guide to Site Health Hazards is a free half-day event organised by the South West Working Well Together Group, with support from the IOSH Bristol & West Community.

The event is particularly focused on supporting smaller contractors, SMEs and self-employed tradespeople, providing straightforward advice and practical information that can be taken back to site and put into action.

However, construction health is everyone's business. We also welcome construction business owners, designers, site managers, supervisors, health and safety professionals and anyone else who plans, manages or influences construction work.

You do not need to be a member of IOSH or involved with Working Well Together to attend. The event is free and open to everyone involved in construction.

What we are covering

Dust & Isocyanates – Keeping Lungs Safe

Practical advice on reducing exposure and protecting respiratory health.

Noise & Hearing Loss – Keeping Hearing Safe

Understanding the risks from noisy construction activities and how we can better protect hearing.

Lead in Paint – Working Safely with Older Buildings

Practical guidance for working on refurbishment and older properties where lead may be present.

Simple Health Support

Get answers from the experts

As well as hearing from industry experts, there will be opportunities throughout the morning to ask questions, discuss the issues you face and share experiences with others working in construction.

The aim isn't to make construction health complicated. It is to provide clear, practical advice that can help you take action to protect yourself, your workforce and your business.

Whether you are a self-employed tradesperson, run a small construction company, design or manage construction work, or work in health and safety, we'd love to see you there.

Booking

The event is completely free to attend, but places are limited and must be booked in advance.
