WWT Herefordshire and Worcestershire group are running an event on welfare for the construction industry. In collaboration with the Herefordshire Health and Safety Group, the event will be taking place on the morning of Wednesday 25th September at Leominster Golf Club, Leominster, Herefordshire.

Providing adequate sanitary, washing, and other welfare provisions is an important part of any construction site arrangements. They are one of an employer’s fundamental and basic legal duties as set out in Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and further expanded upon in the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM). Washing is a key element in effective risk control for some substances, like cement and lead, as well as micro-organisms present in various work environments. HSE Inspectors are targeting welfare at site visits and failure to comply with the requirements is likely to result in enforcement action, including the serving of Improvement Notices.

Topics to be covered include the legal requirements for welfare on construction sites, what the expectations are for welfare provision at site level, including the HSE’s view and a Principal Contractor’s perspective, and sessions on personal health, and well-being (including where to get help and advice). There will also be an opportunity for delegates to view a modern mobile welfare unit.

This event is free to attend, and refreshments will be provided.
